All glories to Śrī Śrī Guru and Gaurāṅga
Gathering with great care an abundance of jeweled philosophical truths, Brahmā offered his hymn of praise to Śrī Kṛṣṇa. That hymn, a great treasure of humankind, is contained in the Fifth Chapter of this book, the Brahma-saṁhitā.
Śrī Gaurāṅga, that ocean of mercy and sole friend of the souls of this age of Kali, while wandering through South India, recovered this treasure, in order to deliver the souls of Gauḍa.1
The venerable Śrī Jīva Gosvāmī, having carefully considered many Scriptures, composed his commentary upon it, and with a heart full of great mercy, that most benevolent soul presented this work to the Gauḍīya devotees.2
My master, Vipina-vihārī, commanded this insignificant servant to say something further, following that same explanation; and so, with a joyful heart, this servant has spoken these few words.
If the devotees, having distinguished the material from the transcendental,3 reflect upon this with purified intelligence, then this servant’s aim will be fulfilled, the heart’s longing satisfied, and pure devotion will spread abroad.
The inner purport of Jīva Gosvāmī’s commentary is profound; grant me, a fool, the power to understand it.
Having carefully brought to blossom Śrī Jīva’s words, beautiful as flower buds, and offering obeisance to Guru and Kṛṣṇa, I shall consider myself blessed to place them in the hands of pure devotees. This is my heart’s desire.
